Stage 1 — Entry Permit
The People Team applies through MOHRE and GDRFA and sends the approved permit by email. It is used to enter the UAE or change your status if you are already in the country on a visit visa.
- Typical processing time: 3–7 working days.
- Provide every requested document promptly; delays affect this stage.
Stage 2 — Medical Fitness Test
Residence applicants complete the medical fitness checks required for their application at a government-approved centre. The People Team will advise which centre to attend and may book it for you. Checks can include blood tests, a chest X-ray and general health screening depending on the application. Results are usually ready within 24–48 hours.
- Wear smart, conservative clothing with covered shoulders and knees and closed-toe shoes.
- Keep hair neat and away from the face; avoid heavy makeup, ripped clothing and sportswear.
- Bring your original passport, entry permit, two to four passport photos and Emirates ID application receipt if available.
Stage 3 — Emirates ID Biometrics
The People Team submits the application through the ICA system. At the appointment, all ten fingerprints are scanned, a photograph is taken and some centres perform an iris scan. The appointment takes approximately 15 minutes.
- Wear the same smart, conservative clothing required for the medical appointment.
- Bring your original passport, entry permit, passport photos if requested and the application reference from HR.
- Processing usually takes 5–10 working days after biometrics.
- Track the card in the UAEICP app or at ica.gov.ae. You can collect it from an ICA centre or receive it through Emirates Post.
Stage 4 — Residency Visa
After your medical results are clear and your Emirates ID application is in progress, the People Team submits the final residency application through GDRFA. HR may require your passport for approximately 2–5 working days. A UAE residence visa is typically valid for two years, and the People Team will arrange its renewal before it expires.
- You receive confirmation of your residency status, sponsor and expiry date.
- Your Emirates ID is issued separately.
